Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky Bottled by: Malts Of Scotland 70cl / 48.4%
The rarest of beasts, a long-aged, fully sherry-matured Ardbeg from the distillery's often forgotten era in the early 1990s under Allied Distillers - these early 1990s Ardbegs have more in common with the pre-1977 casks than the 1980s or post-1997 stocks.
This spectacular 1991 sherry hogshead was bottled as a 20-year-old at 48.4% in 2011 by Malts Of Scotland for Hotel Bero, with 240 bottles yielded from cask 11003.
Earthy, coastal, immensely tarry, elegantly drying and full-on with big and bold elements of medicine, herb liqueurs and peat oils, this Malts of Scotland Ardbeg 1991 20-year-old is a brilliant and rather unique snapshot of an all-too-shortlived era of style and character at this truly great distillery.
