Speyside is in the Grampian region of the Highlands. A small district which is home to over 80 of Scotland's distilleries and is far and away the distilling heartland of the country.
Speyside whiskies are of a relatively broad spectrum of flavour but are generally lighter, usually unpeated malts, with a medium body and pleasant, fruity character.
The more fulsome styles are usually matured in ex-Sherry casks which lends them that rich nutty, chocolatey, earthy, dry or sweet dark fruit character indicative of this style. It is home some of the most famous distilleries in Scotland such as Macallan, Glenlivet, Aberlour and Glenfiddich to name a few.
