Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky Distillery Bottling 70cl / 41.7%
A small batch Glenglassaugh 1978 bottled as a 35-year-old without colouring or chill filtration in 2014 for the distillery's Massandra Collection series. This was during Billy Walker's brief but exceptionally fruitful tenure at Glenglassaugh, which proved to be the start of the distillery's revival.
Walker's modus operandi was very simple - find the best casks and bottle them. This 1978 Glenglassaugh 35-year-old came from casks filled with madeira-style wine made at Massandra, the Russian Tsar's legendary wine estate in Crimea (which has a fascinating story of its own), and was an edition of 1320 bottles released at its delightfully gentle natural cask strength of 41.7%. An exceptionally deep 'Glassaugh.

Tasting Notes
Official Tasting Notes
Colour: Antique dark oak.
Nose: Rounded, creamy notes of cantaloupe melon open to beautiful depths of gentle sweet oak. Waves of a subtle sea air, coastal note balance the rich ripe fruit character.
Palate: A fantastic contrast of luscious ripe melon and sharp sour plums softens to boiled sweets and dried apricots, with the smallest hint of ripped mint in the background. A gentle dry oak note sweetens to a dusting of icing sugar on the palate, giving yet another dimension to the ever changing finish.
Finish: Layer upon layer of subtle fruit characters come together with delicate aged oak to give a delicious range of flavours in the unique Glenglassaugh style.

2 bottles of this lovely single malt were bought as gifts. Sampled a couple of drams from one bottle and it went well above expectations. The quality, integrity, natural colour, cask strength ABV and value-for-money made these bottles 'no-brainers'.
Present us with more of these quality bottles at fair prices...and we'll buy more.
This is a heavily sherried dram that tastes of dates and raisins with a touch of honey and vanilla. It’s pretty soft and smooth without water but a few drops seem to thicken it up slightly and add hints of caramel. Absolutely gorgeous.
