Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky Bottled by: Direct Wines Ltd 70cl / 46%
A highly desirable rare indie vintage Glenlivet 1980 24-year-old bottled at 46% from Cask 13741 in 2004 or 2005 by mail-order firm Direct Wines as part of their First Cask series - a blizzard of around 800 bottlings of top quality aged single malt that appeared between the late Nineties and early Noughties.
The single malts for First Cask were sourced by Direct Wines from Signatory Vintage, a previously little-known fact that goes a long way to explaining why such a disproportionate majority of these First Cask bottlings are so very good.
*Please note that this bottle's label shows cellar damage and is sold as seen.

Edradour may be the hidden gem of malts but this is a hidden gem in their line up. Dark, complex and satisfying, don't hesitate for a second, this is not to be missed at this price point.
Initial Smokey smell then a hint of pear drop.
Tried it without water and it had a sharp burning sensation on the palate as you would expect at this strength but once you added water the sharpness mellowed and the sweet vanilla taste came through.
