Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky Bottled by: Gordon & MacPhail 70cl / 52.8%
A single cask Caol Ila 1984 bottled as a 33-year-old in 2018 without colouring or chill filtration by Gordon & MacPhail for their Connoisseurs Choice Cask Strength range.
This 1984 Caol Ila 33-year-old came from a single refill sherry hogshead cask #6078 that yielded 216 bottles at its natural cask strength of 52.8%. The 1980s were a bad time for the whisky industry, and particularly for Islay whisky, but Caol Ila were making some of their best ever spirit. Casks like this one show why the closure of Port Ellen was considered a reasonable option at the time.
