Ichiro's Malt Mizunara Wood Reserve is a Japanese blended malt whisky from Ichiro Akuto, founder and master distiller at the amazing Chichibu distillery in Japan.

There have been a few versions of this bottling, which made its debut around 2010. All include Chichibu spirit in the assemblage, and the original versions also included whisky from the Hanyu distillery, though it is unclear whether that's still the case nowadays. Nevertheless, it's a racing certainty that the majority of the mix is made up of Mizunara-matured Chichibu whisky, and that's definitely a good thing.

As the name suggests, Mizunara wood, also known as Japanese oak, features heavily in the flavour profile here, imparting a subtle but heady, incense-like fragrance to the whisky. Ichiro's Malt Mizunara Wood Reserve is bottled at a sturdy but approachable 46.5% without colouring or chill filtration and is a delightfully gentle dram that showcases the elegance of Japanese whisky.
