One of the key malts for owner Diageo's White Horse blended Scotch whisky, Glen Elgin is generally fairly low-profile, although unlike many of Diageo's workhorse distilleries it does have a solid, if a little mundane, official bottling.
The real gems from Glen Elgin tend to come from indie bottlers like Cooper's Choice, who've bottled this 11-year-old Glen Elgin from the 2010 vintage at 56% after a finishing period in a cask that formerly was home to some (no doubt very tasty) Sauternes dessert wine from Bordeaux.

This is a heavily sherried dram that tastes of dates and raisins with a touch of honey and vanilla. It’s pretty soft and smooth without water but a few drops seem to thicken it up slightly and add hints of caramel. Absolutely gorgeous.
