A marvellous old 1960s bottling of Johnnie Walker Swing, originally introduced in 1932 for export markets - the story goes that the unusual sloping, rounded-base bottle was supposedly designed for cruise ships, where it would swing to and fro rather than toppling over in rough seas.

Regardless of these possibly apocryphal stories, what's certain is that Johnnie Walker Swing was the first new prestige expression from the Johnnie Walker brand, decades before Johnnie Walker Harmony, Oldest or Blue Label had been dreamt up.

Bottled at the higher strength of 43%, these older prestige blends from the 1960s and earlier contain a very significantly higher proportion of single malt whisky in their recipes than the blended whiskies of today - and given that in this case those whiskies would likely have been distilled in the mid-to-late 1950s and early 1960s, it's no surprise that these old Johnnie Walker Swing bottles are so highly prized by both collectors and drinkers alike.
