Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky Distillery Bottling 70cl / 43%
An old bottle of Macallan 1978 18-year-old Speyside single malt whisky released in 1996 in the classic blue ribbon packaging during the golden era when the distillery released only sherry cask-matured Macallans of mind bending quality. This vintage is noticeably darker than many of the others and resembles liquid christmas cake on the palate.
This 1978 Macallan 18-year-old is a textbook example of the legendary old style Macallan fruity, sherry intensity. By the late seventies the style was beginning to become more sinewy and chewy with a more modern meatiness to the spirit. However the fruit is still hugely abundant in the bottlings from this era.

This is a heavily sherried dram that tastes of dates and raisins with a touch of honey and vanilla. It’s pretty soft and smooth without water but a few drops seem to thicken it up slightly and add hints of caramel. Absolutely gorgeous.
