Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky Bottled by: Gordon & MacPhail 70cl / 59.1%
A single cask Macallan 2003 20-year-old Speyside single malt whisky from Gordon & MacPhail, this was bottled at full strength in 2023 without colouring or chill filtration for the marvellous Speymalt series.
This 20-year-old Macallan 2003 Speymalt came from a single first fill sherry hogshead cask 13603613 that yielded 298 bottles at its whopping natural cask strength of 59.1%., Sherry hogsheads have a greater internal surface area to volume ratio than the larger sherry butts, meaning that the spirit gets a greater exposure to the wood in any given period - this should be a spectacular Speymalt from G&M, and of course by any measure it's extraordinary value for Macallan at this age.

This is a heavily sherried dram that tastes of dates and raisins with a touch of honey and vanilla. It’s pretty soft and smooth without water but a few drops seem to thicken it up slightly and add hints of caramel. Absolutely gorgeous.
