Lowland Single Grain Scotch Whisky Bottled By: Duncan Taylor 70cl / 55.1%
A 26-year-old North British single grain whisky from the 1978 vintage bottled in 2005 by Duncan Taylor for their Rare Auld range. This Rare Auld North British 1978 26-year-old came from a single cask number 239967, which yielded 170 bottles at its impressive cask strength of 55.1%.
This North British 1978 seems to have been the first full-size single grain whisky that Duncan Taylor bottled back in the day, kicking off what was to become a remarkable stream of top class aged single grains from the company. The quality of those whiskies played a significant role in the bringing the category to the attention of discerning whisky fans, so this one is a rather interesting footnote in the history of the evolution of today's whisky market.

This is a heavily sherried dram that tastes of dates and raisins with a touch of honey and vanilla. It’s pretty soft and smooth without water but a few drops seem to thicken it up slightly and add hints of caramel. Absolutely gorgeous.
