An 18-year-old Port Charlotte 2004 single cask privately bottled in 2022 for Cumbrae Supply and entitled Hug-A-Barrel III. Port Charlotte is a relatively heavily-peated Islay single malt from Bruichladdich but isn't produced in huge quantities and official bottlings are thin on the ground.
Thankfully, an increasing number of this kind of privately-bottled casks have appeared in the last few years. Hug-A-Barrel III was a sherry hogshead cask (no. 929) that yielded a total of just 143 bottles at its natural cask strength of 51.3%. This 2004 Port Charlotte 18-year-old looks like a gem.

This is a heavily sherried dram that tastes of dates and raisins with a touch of honey and vanilla. It’s pretty soft and smooth without water but a few drops seem to thicken it up slightly and add hints of caramel. Absolutely gorgeous.
