Weller Full Proof Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey is a very high strength version of Weller's famous wheated bourbon, which is made at Buffalo Trace distillery and famously uses wheat instead of rye as the secondary grain in the mashbill.
Wheated bourbons lack the spicy intensity of many high-rye bourbons and are usually softer, more nuanced whiskeys as a result. Weller Full Proof is bottled at 115 US Proof, equivalent to 57% alcohol by volume - very close to 100 UK proof. Additionally, Weller Full Proof bourbon is bottled without chill filtration, retaining the spirit's natural oiliness and giving the whiskey a luscious mouthfeel. This is a heavily sherried dram that tastes of dates and raisins with a touch of honey and vanilla. It’s pretty soft and smooth without water but a few drops seem to thicken it up slightly and add hints of caramel. Absolutely gorgeous.
