Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky Distillery Bottling 70cl / 40.5%
Black Bowmore 1964 42-year-old came out in 2007 as the first release in the third Bowmore Trilogy series, which followed the original Black Bowmore trilogy (1993-1995) and the Cask trilogy (2003).
This was the fourth official Black Bowmore (not counting the Oloroso casks bottled for Oddbins and the Cask trilogy) and was the oldest yet bottled at the time of release. Black Bowmore 1964 42-year-old matured entirely in Oloroso sherry casks and was a limited edition of just 827 bottles at its natural cask strength of 40.5%.
Comparisons are odious, but while this Black Bowmore lacks the power of the first trilogy it is a more elegant dram and still retains the astonishing purity and intensity of flavour that earmarked Black Bowmore as an all-time classic Islay whisky.

This is a heavily sherried dram that tastes of dates and raisins with a touch of honey and vanilla. It’s pretty soft and smooth without water but a few drops seem to thicken it up slightly and add hints of caramel. Absolutely gorgeous.
