From the fair Isle of Mull comes Tobermory distillery's peated single malt whisky, Ledaig. Ledaig has so many followers nowadays you'd be forgiven for wondering if what used to be an amusing side project might actually be more popular than the standard Tobermory.
Anyway, idle speculation aside, let's get down to brass tacks: this 14 year old Ledaig 2006 has been bottled from a refill sherry butt by Douglas Laing in 2020, yielding 298 bottles at a very promising drinking strength of 52.4%. Lots of evaporation from that cask, they must have left it by the window - or maybe it was just popular with the warehousemen. Gah, more speculation! I can't help myself.

Nose: Warm tar, damp oak wood and sweet medicinal qualities.
Palate: Smoked ham, pastrami, blueberries, charred currants and Scottish barley.
Finish: Sweet peat, orange peel, rock salt, cinnamon and toasted staves.

This is beautiful! Decent sherry hit, lots of dark fruit, leaning towards ripe plum for me. Hit of mint too which I find more in heavily sherried bottles. Very decent abv. Let's face it, if it was bottled by the (m) distillery in this presentation it would cost £300/£350 minimum. Will be treating myself to anoulther shortly 😁 drop of water makes this just too moreish!
