Brendan McCarron joined Distell as Master Distiller in March 2021, following a seven year spell at LVMH, where he was Head of Maturing Stock, a role in which he worked closely alongside Dr. Bill Lumsden to create new bottlings of both Glenmorangie and Ardbeg.
Prior to that, Brendan had spent several years working with Diageo in a variety of roles. He was involved with the design and creation of the Roseisle distillery, was later appointed Oban distillery manager at the age of 28, and ended up as the company's Group Manager for Islay, overseeing both Caol Ila and Lagavulin as well as the Port Ellen Maltings.
As Distell’s new Master Distiller, Brendan now has overall responsibility for the output at Deanston, Tobermory and Bunnahabhain distilleries (including the gins now made at Deanston and Tobermory), as well as ensuring supply for the Black Bottle and Scottish Leader blends.
We’re delighted to have Brendan taking us through this splendid tasting and can’t wait to hear his plans for the future of these great distilleries.

This is beautiful! Decent sherry hit, lots of dark fruit, leaning towards ripe plum for me. Hit of mint too which I find more in heavily sherried bottles. Very decent abv. Let's face it, if it was bottled by the (m) distillery in this presentation it would cost £300/£350 minimum. Will be treating myself to anoulther shortly 😁 drop of water makes this just too moreish!
