An 'unpeated' 10 year old cask strength Caol Ila bottled in 2009 as part of Diageo's annual Special Releases. It is very hard to flush the peat out of a distillery like Caol Ila and as a result this bottling lies somewhere between an Islay and a coastal Highlander in style.
A fantastically fresh and Atlantic style malt, full of brine, sea breezes, minerals, wet pebbles, salt, lemon zest and rieslingesque petrol qualities. It also displays some remarkable vegetal notes of cactus, mashed potatoes and earth on the palate which bear strange resemblance to some top class tequilas. Try it and see for yourself, it's a fantastic and intriguing dram by any standard.
