An old bottle of Isle of Jura 21-year-old Island single malt whisky. This version dates from shortly after the turn of the millennium, and had been superceded by 2005, so the whisky inside was likely distilled no later than the early 1980s.
Isle of Jura 21-year-old has a well-deserved reputation as a particularly easy-drinking single malt whisky - these older versions are always gentle and elegant drams, ideal for after dinner contemplation.

Initial Smokey smell then a hint of pear drop.
Tried it without water and it had a sharp burning sensation on the palate as you would expect at this strength but once you added water the sharpness mellowed and the sweet vanilla taste came through.
