Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky Bottled by: Direct Wines Ltd 70cl / 46%
A bottle of 1972 Macduff 31-year-old, bottled at 46% by Direct Wines for their First Cask series in 2003/4. Around 800 First Cask releases appeared from the early 1990s until 2014, although only a handful of these were after 2004.
These First Cask single malts were sold by mail order (Direct Wines also own the Sunday Times Wine Club and Laithwaites, among others) and have garnered a reputation in recent years as very good, affordable collector's items - unsurprising, as the casks were apparently sourced from Signatory Vintage, who really know a thing or two about picking a good cask.
Please note that this bottle's label shows cellar damage and is sold as seen.

Edradour may be the hidden gem of malts but this is a hidden gem in their line up. Dark, complex and satisfying, don't hesitate for a second, this is not to be missed at this price point.
Initial Smokey smell then a hint of pear drop.
Tried it without water and it had a sharp burning sensation on the palate as you would expect at this strength but once you added water the sharpness mellowed and the sweet vanilla taste came through.
