Introducing Benromach 2010 Cara Gold, one of the latest releases to hit our shelves! Benromach 2010 Contrasts: Cara Gold Malt (to give it its full title) is the latest release in the Benromach Contrasts series, previous iterations of which have included the popular Benromach Organic and Benromach Peat Smoke releases.
So what is Benromach Cara Gold? It’s a special 2010 vintage Benromach using whisky distilled from a particular kind of malted barley called Cara Gold, which is a barley variety that’s usually used for brewing beer, combined with some of Benromach’s standard 12ppm lightly peated malt and aged full term in first fill ex-bourbon casks before finally being bottled a few weeks ago as an 11-year-old at the Contrast range’s standard 46%.
Benromach Cara Gold is a limited edition of 6300 bottles (1500 in the UK), so we’ve only got a small allocation, so this will be first come, first served. Here’s the official tasting notes to whet your appetites a little further:
Aromas: Perfumed and sweet with passionfruit, lychee and lime complemented by a hint of malted biscuit.
Palate: Smooth and sweet flavours of pineapple, apricot and subtle pepper lead to toasted malt and a hint of butterscotch.
Finish: Vibrant and fruity with sweet smoke.
