A 10-year-old Caol Ila 2012 single cask bottled in 2023 by Douglas Laing without colouring or chill filtration for their Old Particular series.
This 2012 Caol Ila 10-year-old came from cask DL16893, a refill hogshead that yielded a generous 359 bottles at Douglas Laing's preferred Old Particular strength of 48.4%, roughly equivalent to the old 85 Imperial proof.
A natural Caol Ila of this age and strength is always a no-brainer for Islay whisky fans and this looks like very good value.

Nose: Sweet barley initially but with a strong, underlying medical style apparent.
Palate: Bursting with coal dust and an earthy/soil character plus peat smoke.
Finish: A coastal saltiness lingers alongside BBQ’d meats and charred oak.
This was may boss's favourite distilliary and is fast becoming mine. Sheer enjoyment to sit down with a glass of this at the end of a bad weekend where the car broke down the passport office messed up our applications for renewal and I didn't have my computer since it was in for a valet. Hopefully it will behave a bit better now. The current alternative Glen Garioch pales in comparison.
