Fred will host the tasting live from Douglas Laing's offices in Hillington, which have recently had a seriously swanky upgrade. He'll be giving us a virtual tour of their fabulous new tasting room during the evening, but of course the main event will be the eight superb drams he'll be introducing, accompanied by plenty of stories and Fred's unfailingly entertaining banter. Fred Laing
Fred Laing joined the family business Douglas Laing and Co. in 1972, taking over the company in 1984 with his brother Stewart after the death of their father Fred Douglas Laing Sr. The company launched their famous Old Malt Cask range of single malts in 1998, quickly followed by the McGibbon's Provenance series in 2000 and the Old Malt Cask Platinum Selection the following year.
After Stewart Laing left the company in 2013, Fred Laing is now Chairman of Douglas Laing & Co., with his daughter Cara Laing on board as Director of Whisky. The Old Particular and Provenance ranges are now the company's main vehicles for their colossal range of single malt and single grain whiskies, and the company also has a popular range of regional blended malt whiskies, the most famous of which is their much-loved Big Peat blended Islay malt.
Very enjoyable and informative evening. A relaxed atmosphere with plenty of humour and anecdotes. An excellent range of quality drams to try and I am definitely open to trying more from Independent bottlers

A tasting masterclass
I was unfortunate to not be able to participate on the evening, but was able to watch the recording the following evening and enjoy some great whiskies. Fred Laing provided an excellent narrative to the company's development as an independent bottler and blender, with several stories and anecdotes along the way providing great entertainment. His tasting commentary for the drams was very helpful too, which consisted of a number of single malt and single grain whiskies from the Douglas Laing range. I was impressed with the Old Particular North British and Invergordon single grain bottlings. The single malts covered the Highlands and Islay and included an excellent sherry & peat combination mystery malt plus top-drawer drams from Ben Nevis and Caol Ila. Another brilliant value tasting event with plenty of interaction between the hosts and participants.

Enjoyable Night
As a\lways this was a thoroughly enjoyable evening with Fred Laing an entertaining host who was not adverse to dolwnplaying some of his own products. The MacDuff whisky confirmed that my palate is simply not up to making that type of expenditure worthwhile. The Caol Ila was the higjhlight of the night for me.

It’s a fabulous single malt - first discovered in holiday to Scotland. Small batch whisky and is mostly used as a main component of a blended whisky. Lovely smooth taste
The only way to drink an affordable and decent strength Macallan. A strong Sherry influence with a ‘vintage’ feel, akin to a Springbank 21 I drank 25 years ago when you could pick one up without bankrupting yourself
