This 27-year-old Macallan 1997 Speymalt came from single cask 4359, a refill American hogshead that yielded just 125 bottles at its impressive natural cask strength of 57.2%. It's rare to see an unsherried refill indie Macallan at this sort of age, this will be a fascinating whisky.

A surprise at the price, I found this dram eceeto be smooth with a good smoke finish, marked at 4 stars because although it was easy to follow with another glass or two it just lacked a little body. I shall buy another bottle of this
