Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky Distillery Bottling 70cl / 42.4%
The stunning Laphroaig 40-year-old was bottled in 2000 and 2001 in two different versions from the same batch of stock assembled from casks filled in 1960. From this batch, 300 bottles were released in 2000 through the Oddbins retail chain as Laphroaig 1960, while the remaining 3300 bottles were bottled in 2001 and put on general release as Laphroaig 40-year-old.
Bottled at its natural strength of 42.4%, Laphroaig 40-year-old remains the oldest ever official bottling from the distillery and is a rare and essential bottle for Laphroaig fans.
This whisky was distilled well before the modernisation of the distillery and is one of the most mellow Laphroaigs we've ever tried, with gentle threads of smoke and sweet peat in an intensely complex palate that shows remarkable elegance and grace - not words one would often associate with this iconic Islay distillery.
Please note there is some wear to the foil of the seal. This is very common with these bottlings as the design of the box is very tight.

This is a heavily sherried dram that tastes of dates and raisins with a touch of honey and vanilla. It’s pretty soft and smooth without water but a few drops seem to thicken it up slightly and add hints of caramel. Absolutely gorgeous.
