Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky Distillery Bottling 75cl / 43%
An old bottle of Macallan 1971 18-year-old Speyside single malt whisky bottled at 43% with the classic blue ribbon packaging back in 1989, back when the standard bottling size was still 750ml.
These early 1970s vintage Macallan 18-year-olds still represent the gold standard for sherried Speyside single malt whisky. Distilled in the era before modernisation and a shortage of sherry casks took hold t 1971 Macallan is wonderful old style, unctuous sherried dram, perfect for after-dinner sipping.
Expect lots of figs, walnut oil, balsamico, leather, touches of cured meats and dark fruits in this 18-year-old Macallan 1971, whose cloak of pristine sherry holds everything together. A wonderful benchmark dram, offering ample evidence of why the whisky made at Macallan in the 1970s and earlier is still regarded as iconic.

This is a heavily sherried dram that tastes of dates and raisins with a touch of honey and vanilla. It’s pretty soft and smooth without water but a few drops seem to thicken it up slightly and add hints of caramel. Absolutely gorgeous.
