Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky Bottled by: Gordon & MacPhail 70cl / 42.2%
A small batch Clynelish 1972 bottled in 2016 as a 43-year-old or 44-year-old by Gordon & MacPhail for their incredible Rare Old series.
The 1972 vintage at Clynelish is particularly legendary and this is a magnificent example, though only 267 bottles were produced at a natural cask strength of 42.2%, so probably only one or two casks were used for this batch.
Gordon & MacPhail have bottled several batches of Clynelish 1972, including some excellent Book of Kells releases and a recent 50-year-old Private Collection edition. Batch RO/16/07 is the only Rare Old bottling of Clynelish 1972 at the time of writing and is one of the best of the bunch.

This is a heavily sherried dram that tastes of dates and raisins with a touch of honey and vanilla. It’s pretty soft and smooth without water but a few drops seem to thicken it up slightly and add hints of caramel. Absolutely gorgeous.
