A 1997 vintage Bas Armagnac from Domaine de Rieston bottled as a 25-year-old without colouring in 2022 by Darroze, the pre-eminent négociant of the Armagnac category, for their Unique Collection at a gutsy strength of 49%.
Darroze are essentially the Signatory Vintage of armagnac, sourcing, and ageing small parcels of only the very best brandies from the region's finest boutique producers, and bottling their products with minimal interference. Darroze are acknowledged as the gold standard for vintage Armagnacs, with owner Marc Darroze, whose father Francis founded the business in the 1970s, once referred to as 'the Pope of Armagnac' by no less than Robert Parker.
