We like to think we’re a broad church here at Whisky-Online. Sure, we’re all about whisky - but we love other spirits too, especially malternatives like brandy and rum.
Timmy R especially is fond of a rum, so he’s very excited about the latest smooth sipper to arrive on our shelves: it’s the first batch of a new rum called Cabal.
Cabal 1513 Batch 1 is the first release from a new independent Scottish-based company called Harpalion Spirits and it’s a rum with a difference. Every single facet of the creation of this rum evolved from an extensive process of consultation and experimentation: the creative process for Cabal 1513 rum involved no fewer than 32 industry professionals, rum experts and members of the public coming together to create a rum that suits both the on-trade, the rum connoisseur and the ordinary consumer.
This collectivism has resulted in the first batch of what could be a revolutionary rum. A masterful blend of both pot and column distilled rums from the Caribbean, Guyana, Guatemala, Panama and Trinidad, Cabal 1513 Batch 1 has been finished in Pedro Ximenez sherry casks up in Speyside to add an extra layer of complexity and sweet dried fruity flavours.
Bottled at 43% without colouring or chill filtration, Cabal 1513 has delicious cooked citrus and dried fruit balanced with sweet caramel and toffee and a silky mouthfeel. All this makes Cabal a very fine sipping rum, and a great option for high class mixed drinks and cocktails.
Cabal 1513 is live on our website now if you fancy a bottle, and the good news is that this is just the first of a range of top end spirits coming from Harpalion. More new releases are scheduled for later this year, so keep your eyes peeled - and if you want to know more right now (or join the Cabal yourself...) check out the Cabal Rum website.
